thejinx0r
I have a silly question: I'm trying to do some cable management in my computer case and 'future proofing' it. Is it bad to leave SATA cables unattached to hard drives? I want to leave one side attached to my motherboard and run them to where they will attach in the future. I don't see why it would be an issue, but I'd rather be safe. Link to comment
marcusone
I've done and it's been fine. Technically its possible for the pins to come in contact with the case and short out. But you'd have to be unlucky for that to happen as they are partly covered (must have some slip inside the end.) Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk 2 Link to comment
Johnm
I do the same thing. I pre-wire and cable manage my servers for the future. that way when I get a new drive.. I can just pop it in and go. Again the only problem might be an odd itme shorting a cable but thats pretty rare. if you're worried about it, electrical tape can work wonders. sticks well and comes off easily (unless it gets really hot and becomes sticky).
