v5.0-rc6-r8168-test1 & test2 slow parity check

Featured Replies

On RC5 the speed was about 70MB/s but with the test software its about 50MB/s.

Any ideas?

For me, test1 was very slow (~30MB/s) but test2 is much better (~100MB/s).

I don't understand why these speed issues exist, with users having different experiences of the various releases.

Peter thanks! I am on test2 at the moment and I am currently upgrading my hdds. The parity check after the upgrade is painfully slow and I have many drives to go. Is it ok to go back to RC5 and continue the drive upgrades or is this unwise?

I can think of no reason you shouldn't revert to RC5 for the purpose of upgrading your drives.

I would not be surprised though, if you find it at the same speed, and the cause of the difference being one or more of the new disks.

We'll soon see.

The slow speed occurred well before the new drives.

I am now back to RC5 and did a parity check and the speed is back to 75MB/s! I am also doing a rebuild and the write speed is at 83MB/s. It was 50MB/s with test2.

I had a look at the issues with RC5 and the mvsas drivers as I have 2 of them. I have never had a problem with my server locking up on spinning up/down issues.

Is there anything to worry about?
