Access and permissions errors

Featured Replies

I am running unRAID version: 5.0-beta11.

Since returning home from university I have been unable to access my unRAID shares from this PC (3 laptops and other 2 PCs are fine) I really have no idea why I am unable to access the share. The only way I am able to access the server is by typing the IP address into the browser for the config page or an explorer window for the file list. The other computers in the house all work fine with //tower.

I am also looking to set up some kind of permissions for the user shares. I want any user on any PC that is connected to the network to have full read access to the shares. I would like exactly one user on a single PC to have read and write access such that no other user on any other PC can accidentally delete files from the share.  I have experimented with share permission settings but haven't had much luck and can't find a guide that isn't for a pre 5.0beta release.

Thanks

Have you considered that the problem is most likely in the PC that can't access the shares then in the unRAID server and its file system?

Give us details on this PC and reflect on how you had it setup for use at school.  Be sure and tell us what Workgroup this PC is assigned to and what Workgroup the unRAID server is assigned to.

The PC (and all other computers connected the the network including the server) are part of the same Workgroup and are, with the exception of the server, all running windows 7. The set up is exactly the same as it was at university, I'm not sure what specific details could make a difference but to my knowledge nothing has changed.

On the PC with the Problem, go to 'Control Panel'.  Now open the 'Credential Manager'. you should have no Entries in any of the three categories.  (My gut feeling is that you or the IT person at the University run a script to setup your computer to work with the University system.)

The only entries are related to the homegroup which I presume are meant to be there.

Well,  my Windows 7 (which works with unRAID) has NO credentials in any of the three categories.  Did you check the other five Windows 7 computers that you have said are working to see what their credentials are???

Yes, I think they are most likely to do with remote access. They appear on my laptop as they do on my pc. However \\tower works on my laptop but not on the PC.

Still having problems with this. And cannot get permissions to work? I can't find any online resources for guidance on how to set up permissions on versions post 5.0beta

Run the New Permissions script from the utils tab. This will take several hors and the browser window must be kept open until it completes.

If one client computer works with the server and another does not then the problem is with the client and not the server.

I wasn't upgrading from a previous version. But, I tried that anyway, unfortunately it didn't resolve the issue.

The problem is on the one client that does not work. Not on the server.
