Pre-Upgrade question re: IDE/SATA mix

Featured Replies

Tom,

I have my flash drives on the way and should be delievered today. I have my array up and running smoothly on 706 and I was wondering what I should do to add 2 SATA drives to the array? I will be adding 1 500GB sata (which I need to replace my current 400GB IDE parity) and 1 400gb SATA. I am wondering if I should first replace parity under 706 or should I upgrade to 3.0 first?

Also, this brings up something that is not documented on your website. How does one with a current array replace an IDE parity drive with a SATA drive? Also, what about adding the 400GB SATA into the system. If I understand correctly, SATA0 and SATA1 would become parity and /disk1. Is this correct?

Just wondering what you would do if you were me  ;)

Thank you,

Mike

You can assign any disk to any "role".  Role means as a parity disk or a data disk.  I'm about to release 3.0-beta2 which among other things makes it easier to assign physical hard drives to parity,disk1,disk2,...,etc.

Well, so I guess I should just wait until beta2 comes out then...

Thanks
