August 27, 201213 yr Hi I am a very newbie. I have 2 3T seagate Hd. After Preclear with ver 1.13 and I had an error formatting them in the server. The Hds ST3000M001 with FW CC4B. I tried to Update the to CC4H with no success. I have low level format them. Any advice.
August 27, 201213 yr From the post http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9880.0 Please include which version of unRAID you are using... SMART reports for the drives might help also... Do you have the logs for the preclear (were there errors in the preclear or just in the formatting)?
August 27, 201213 yr The concept of a LOW LEVEL FORMAT has not existed in consumer drives as an operation we, as consumers could invoke, for about 30 years. All we can do is normal writes and high level partitioning and formatting. It is easily possibe that many sata controllers are unable to handle drives over a certain size.

How long does it takes to format a 3T drive on the unRaid server? system : MSI motherboard. P67A-G45 Intel Celeron processor 2X4 gig memory I have attached logs of preclear and list of my drives .as you can see the 3T is still formating after about 30mins. I have 2 supermicro 5 in 3 disk cage which is not on the system yet as I am waiting for my Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8 Channel 3GB/S SAS/SATA RAID PCI-E Card Marvell 6480. I am very new I just started last week with the help of my younger brother who came for a holiday, and he has gone home now and i am turning to the forum for help. Thankyou. August 28, 201213 yr The term "Low Level Format" has been redefined. It's modern, somewhat ambiguous, definition includes operations done below the file system abstraction layer. Pre-clear qualifies as a low level format under this definition.
