unRAID with other apps?

Featured Replies

Are you able to run other apps off of an unRAID server?

My biggest issue is that I use usenet (sabnzbd), and occasionally torrents. I don't want a computer running for downloads, and another one as a server. It seems like a wait of space. Is there any way to run sabnzbd as well as a torrent program off of an unRAID server?

TIA

unRAID is a slackware distribution with a scaled down root filesystem in RAM.

If you have enough ram you can add most software easily with the slackware installpkg command.

As far as torrents. I've compiled and tested ctorrent for single torrent downloads.

For a larger multitorrent system, I've compiled and tested rtorrent and it's working well so far.

For your sabnzbd.. It seems to be written in python. If it's a text based reader and you install python then it may work.

Not sure if it needs other packages.

The downside of unRAID (which is also the upside) is that the root is in RAM so once you reboot all is lost.

Therefore you have to take measures to install all your packages upon bootup and restore any static configuration data you may have saved on the flash.

It's not all that hard, it just takes a bit of effort.

I have allot of third party utilities running on my unRAID server.. Such as Firefly/mt-daapd, rtorrent and some others I cannot remember at the moment.
