joeman2116
I cannot access the menus. After rebooting and bring everything online, all works very well, but some time during the late hours or early morning when i try to access the menus they are not responsive. If i try to access my data from windows explorer - - works fine If i access any of my plugins - sabnzbd, air video, web, plex etc - they all respond fine. So, everything is accessible but not the Unraid menus. (Also tried /Main, /Settings - individually to see if it would work , but no go) I tried another build(rc3)but the same results. Would someone please have a look at my log and see if there might be something there which is causing the problem? The only thing i see are some errors that occurred on my cache drive? I did not think the errors would cause emhttp - menus to become non-responsive. I think i should replace the cache drive and see if that helps....?? Joe L.
You probably ran out of "low" memory. The linux kernel then kills off processes that have been idle the longest in an attempt to free resources.(and emhttp is usually idle the longest) To track memory usage, type free -l The cause are your add-ons... they are using up all the RAM. joeman2116
Joe L. Thanks for the reply /Info Makes sense. Since everything else still works perfect.. I will keep an eye on the memory level with the free-l command From your expertise, would you think 8gig would be enough? (currently have 4 gig) To bad there isn't an easy way to stop / restart the emhttp from the console or telnet..... Do you think this might be caused by copying a large number of files from one drive to another? Thanks Joe Quote Link to comment
joeman2116
I turned off most plugins and still getting the same problem. System worked perfect all day and evening but in the morning the unraid menus were dead / non responsive. I had ran a parity check over night, and see it is still running (at least the hd lights indicates so) Everything else is still working and can access data fine. Using free -l - memory levels look ok. I had recently added a cache drive, and don't recall having this problem prior to the addon. I wonder if it could be the cause? joeman2116
I removed the cache drive. I ran it for 24 hours plus, and the system is working perfectly. All plugins, disk to disk copying - etc working fine It appears the cache drive was affecting the system. I will reinstall the cache drive at some later date. Helmonder
Well... If that really solves the issue then it points to having dound a bug.. Ar the moment I am on holiday, I access my system remotely (vpn, works great btw) but I have only accessed the main page two times in the beginning of my holiday. Since two days my main page is unresponsive, everything else still works; cp, sb, nzb, airvideo, all ok ... So joe's take seems to work for me.. Some app has a memory leak ( or uses a lot, I have 8 gigs of ram) and emhttp hardly got used. Ofcourse the structural way is to find out what app is causing this.. A less nice way could be to make sure emhttp does not end up the process to get killed.. What if there was an hourly script that telnetted port 80 on the localhost (and gave a GET) would that make it less likely that emhttp dies ? Quote Link to comment
joeman2116
Helmonder, As mentioned before i had the same symptoms. I tried stopping the plugins but the emhttp menu would be non responsive again each morning. The only thing I added was a cache drive, a few days earlier, so I took it out and now it has worked perfectly with all the plugins Sab, air video, maraschino, web, simple features, teamspeak3, plex, utserver, dynamic DNS, I have been monitoring the free memory and it has gotten low but all still working. I will continue in this setup for at least a few days, then hopefully put back either the same cache drive or another spare I have. I like your idea of a script to keep the emhttp menus active. I consider these critical menus and it would seem to make sense to ensure emhttp stays alive. Maybe someone will read this and provide a little script to do it!
