September 21, 200619 yr http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136014&CMP=AFC-TechBargains Still hunting for a bargain on 750 PATA $199 for a Seagate 500 PATA from Tiger. Note that this one is OEM and will have a shorter warranty than the standard Seagate 5years http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1723262&CatId=0
October 7, 200619 yr I order seagates OEM from newegg all the time and they all have 5 year warranties. Some of the other manufactures lowered theirs but seagate did not. That is why my 12 disk tower has only 2 maxtors and all the rest seagates. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Brand=1305&N=2010150014+50001305&Submit=ENE&Manufactory=1305&SubCategory=14 ^^ Scroll down the list above and look at the warrranty field. That is a company that stands behind its products. I only hope that now that they own maxtor, they can improve their quality too.
October 8, 200619 yr Author That's good to know but wasn't my understanding - have you checked warranty life on any of the drives to be sure? One of the other things, yet another, about Maxtor was that the warranty life started at manufacture date rather than purchase date. Not a big deal unless it's an OEM drive with a 1year warranty that fails after less than a month of ownership and you check to find that it has less than 4months of warranty left! that pretty much swore me off Maxtor OEM drives for sure!
