Array fail to start after reboot

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My issue started after a power failure in my house. When I restarted the server the array have failed to start. Every time I tried to start the array, it did not start and the status was initial configuration with a red circle next to the array. I have then tried to restore function (I have read the what exactly it does) and after a few tries, the array started rebuilding the parity from my drives. When the rebuild finished, the array was started and working fine.

I am attaching my syslog and my smart report for my 8 drives. I need to shut down the server again this weekend and I hoping that I can fix this issue before hand so I will not lose any of my data.

dgaschk,

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I am lucky since sda is the parity drive and sdi is an empty drive. Knowing that, what will be the best way to get them fixed? just replace one drive at a time and rebuild the array?

I'm not sure how a rebuild will go with a drive giving read errors. I'd reset the config and rebuild parity without sdi in the array. Then do a parity check. This should clear the pending sectors on sda. Meanwhile, run pre-clear on sdi then add it back to the array. Do another parity check.

Connect with telnet (putty) or using the attached console enter:

initconfig

No drives should have pending sectors.
