September 25, 201213 yr Hi, Found this forum after searching for a solution to host my movies and stream it to my PS3's and ATV's unRaid seems to be a cheaper solution rather then buy a expensive NAS. I got an old desctop with [email protected] with 512MB RAM and a single IDE disc for now. It also has a SATA raid-card, so adding drives later is no problem. This build is just for learning, and therefor just the single disc for now, if it's possible. My Award bios on this MB is not supporting USB boot, and therefor my topic-question: Is there an easy way to make a bootable disc with unRAID? I just want to use it as a PLEX-server, so no need for security or backup of files. (For now) I'll be happy to install it to my harddrive. (If I can make an bootable install disc.) Second question: Will this hardware be able to stream a .mkv @720p? And if yes, to more than 1 device at a time? (onboard 100mbit lan now, but can with ease add a gigabit card if it is needed.) I might get hit with the "read wiki" etc :-) But sorry, I did not find info about a install from disc, just USB. Thank you (in advance)
September 26, 201213 yr There is no CD-ROM support. See here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/USB_Flash_Drive_Preparation#If_the_Flash_will_not_boot.2C_read_over_the_following_tips
September 26, 201213 yr Technically. If you absolutely can't boot from flash drive... You can boot cd by using plop on cd that will then in turn boot unraid from flash... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
September 26, 201213 yr Author Thanks @Johnm I found plop, made a boot-cd and and the thing works like a charm, running 5.0-rc5 Next is to compile the boot-cd my self, it so the usb is choosen by default. I now have gone forward making my plex server work. Currently transfering both an .avi and .mkv to it now, to test. In the meantime I try to get menu to work. It works fine following the wiki, but after a reboot I have to manually start it with ./uu But inside /tower:8080 every link in the top-menu is empy, exept the main page with disk info. If I try the pkg manager the page is blank. Folowing the wiki to tryinstall "screen" but since everything inside is blank, besides this: e </BODY></HTML> 0 Anyone that can push me in the right direction? Thank you
September 26, 201213 yr Author New development. After another reboot, it now shows, but with the error: No Packages defined in package configuration file(s) Tried another search, but with no luck Where to put the pkg files? And where to get them EDIT: Yet another reboot, startet /.uu and now the packages show. :-\ Installed the screen package, and pressed yes for reinstall at reboot. Rebooted, and now back to "No Packages defined in package configuration file(s)" Really strange...

Rebooted, and now back to "No Packages defined in package configuration file(s)" Really strange... It is expecting /boot/packages and /boot/unmenu to be persistent. Apparently, in your config, they are not and the files are probably being written to RAM. (and are gone once you reboot) You must mount the flash drive at /boot
September 27, 201213 yr Author Thank you for your reply, but I'm sorry, can't fully understand what to do now. Tried to follow the guide in the wiki, but this subject I can't find.

What do you see when you type: ls -l /boot and ls -l /boot/packages and mount and ls -l /dev/disk/by* One more thing, your disk temperature is in RED because it is way too hot. Most people try to provide enough air flow across the disk to keep its temperature below 40C. My disks typically sit in the upper 20's to mid 30C range. You will find very little in the wiki about booting from CD since it is very unusual, and very customized, and typically only needed on older hardware. Joe L.
September 27, 201213 yr Author Hi, and thank you for your reply. The strangest thing is that after a number of reboots, without doing anything, everything is now working fine. A lot of packages is listed. Thank you for the heads up about the temp. My fan in front of the disks was not connected, and now it is just above 40C. But when I put the box in the technical room, I will also connect the rest of the fans, just can't stand the noice now
