I have a friend that has two brand new 1tb SAS drive. I can likely get them free or dirt cheap.

    I'm new to unRaid and know next to nothing about SAS.  That said, I was curious and did a little digging.  It looks like the 5.0 beta development is adding SAS features and compatibility (http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_Server_Version_5.0-beta_Release_Notes).  If you have a motherboard or controller that works with the drives you are probably good to go.

     

    Note that you can plug SATA drives into SAS ports but you can't plug SAS drives into SATA ports, per Wikipedia
