I made a mess

Featured Replies

I have almost no knowledge of Linux, but have managed to build an unraid server and maintain it for a few years now.  It works great. I've also been using Sabnzbd on a windows PC for some time without any problems. So why not try putting Sab on the unraid server?  I've always seen it listed in the unmenu so I thought I might give it  try.

Well, I screwed up. The installation from unmenu went fine, but when I went to put in the paths for the download directories I tried to write them as I understood them in windows with an IP address. I now think I should have probably put in something like /mnt/user/Movies to point to the share on the unraid server.  What I did instead was use the wrong slash symbols as well as the wrong path and I think for my first test download it must have been pointing to the Flash and not the share.

I let the download complete, but from windows I can't find any of the files it downloaded. http://tower no longer works and the shares aren't accessible either. I can however access the data via the actual disks so at least all the data seems to be there.

Any thoughts on what I should do to recover?  I am willing to start from scratch but I would like to avoid losing the data on the disks. Can I force the server to shutdown, remove the flash, format it, and put unraid back on it?  If I do this will unraid be able to work with the drives as-is and perhaps keep the data and rebuild the parity drive?  Any help is appreciated.

I went ahead and rebooted.  Everything appears to have come back up OK and the flash only shows 7% of its 2 Gigs being used so that tells me the data I downloaded via Sabnzbd didn't go there although I have no idea where it went.  I can't find it on any of the unraid drives either.  It just must be gone I guess.

So I think I know what the paths should be now for the download directories, but I am utterly confused on how to upgrade Sab.  I thought using Unmenu to install it would be easy, which it was for the most part, but Unmenu does not reflect the latest version of Sab.  So now I have an older version of Sab installed on the flash via Unmenu.  What is the easiest way to update to the latest version?

Probably since you used the wrong slashes, it got put in the ram filesystem. My guess is that happened and the download filled your ram causing the OS to start killing off processes to make room. Emhttp(the webgui) and samba were among the list to be killed which is why you couldn't access any shares or the webgui. Rebooting cleared the ram and everything is working fine now, :)

Thanks.  I'm sure you are right.  This is probably why I can't find any trace of the files.

It is up and running, but I'm still stuck trying to understand how I can best upgrade the older version of Sabnzbd I have on it.

What version of unraid are you running?

What version of unraid are you running?

4.7

Ok, was gonna say if your on a 5+ version the plug-in will update it automatically. I see prostuff has released an updated version as well, :).

You may have to reboot to get the new version installed, but I'm speaking from pure speculation, I don't know anything about the .conf packages!

To be honest, I didn't even know there was a new version of unraid out there.  I assume I can upgrade from 4.7 OK.  Do you think if I did that I would be saving myself some time elsewhere, like updating things like Sabnzbd, Sickbeard, Coachpotato, and YAMJ?

The new version is still in beta, but many users are running it(I myself have never ran 4.7, I've always ran 5+ builds with no issue).

Like I said, I don't know anything about the .conf files, so I couldn't say one way or the other if it'd save you time. You could upgrade if you wanted, the instructions are in the release notes to upgrade.

Many users are using the .conf files with no problem, not trying to steer you away from them, :)

Thanks.  I'm so ignorant with a lot of this.  I'm only guessing right but it sounds like 4.7 user unmenu and conf files whereas 5.0+ now uses plugins more.  If plugins make my world easier then I might need to go that direction.  I guess I need to continue reading more.

That's right, in one of the 5 Beta's plug-ins were introduced. Prior to that the unmenu .confs were the only way to easily add on packages.

Just to put some closure to this post I did get it resolved.  All I needed to do was delete the Sabnzbd folder on the flash and then resinstall the conf file with the 7.4 version of Sabnzbd.  This allowed Sabnzbd to install properly as well as Sickbeard.  Now if I can figure out YAMJ I'll be done. :)
