batt01
I am finally going to move all my files and apps over to my Unraid server. Built it about a year ago, and played around with a couple of junk drives. Now that drive prices are down and have gotten some decent storage. Currently I have Installed. WD Green 3TB Parity WD Green 3TB Sorage WD Green 3TB STorage. I upgraded to Plus Yesterday and I have two new drives that can be used for cache. WD 320 2.5in Laptop drive 5400rm 320gb Hitachi 1TB 7200rpm Which would be a better cache drive. The HGST would be speedy, but I dont really need a cache yhat large. The laptop drive is lower, but the size is about right. I am leaning towards using the 1TB Hitachi as cache. Quote Link to comment
bigsing
I can see doing it either way honestly, are you more interested in running apps or having the faster write speeds? I'd pick the 320gb drive if you are just using the cache drive to run apps, as that opens up the use of the 1tb drive as an additional storage drive in your array. I'd pick the 1tb drive, if your main concern is speed. I use a 1TB drive as my cache because its just what i had laying around. Quote Link to comment
