November 9, 201213 yr Does my mobo support 4TB drives? mobo i own: ASUS M4A78LT-M will it work with 4tb drives? Since i'm getting out of SATA connectors on the mobo i'm also planning on buying an expansion card for 8 more sata connections (so i can have a total of 13 drives in my system) Is the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 still the way to go? Does this support 4tb drives? My psu is : Corsair CX430 , how many 4tb drives can i connect max? (im getting green drives, 20ears i already own) thx!
November 9, 201213 yr Does my mobo support 4TB drives? mobo i own: ASUS M4A78LT-M will it work with 4tb drives? I can't say for sure re: specific issues with that mobo, but the majority of boards will support 4TB drives AS DATA DRIVES. The 4TB support issue is usually only a concern if you're looking to boot from it (which you don't do with UnRaid). So, chances are very good that you would not have an issue. Is the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 still the way to go? Does this support 4tb drives? I have two of these and have no issue supporting 4TB drives. That said, if I were to buy another board today, I might try and get one of the m1015 boards as they are a little more current. Would you see a difference in day-to-day performance... unlikely (Except in parity checks). A user on this board seems to get stock of them periodically and sells them to UnRaid users at a VERY reasonable price. Limited stock though... My psu is : Corsair CX430 , how many 4tb drives can i connect max? (im getting green drives, 20ears i already own) That PSU is already WAY underpowered. 28amps on the 12v rail. 20 green drives already pull something like 40amps. I can't believe your system even works! You should be looking at 650w+ single rail (I'd go 750 personally). See PSU thread Hope that helps! [EDIT] Realized I mis-read the HD number. 20ears meant 2TB EARS . So, re: PSU, if you're looking for 13, a 430 would still be underpowered, but not grossly. An upgrade would still be wise, as there's nothing worse then random issues because a drive in the array is not getting quite enough juice. I would probably look at at 650 myself, to give you a bit of overhead. Especially if you happen to come across a great deal on a 7200RPM drive. You could get away with something a bit smaller, but for the few extra bucks, I believe it's worth getting the slightly larger PSU...
November 9, 201213 yr Author Thx for replying! Who's that person you speak of selling the addon card? Is he selling to europe too? Yeah i meant 2tb green ears drive, not 20 lol Max i can build in my case are 12-13 drives Ive looked into 3tb green wd drive and the reviews say they use 9-8watt full load, so say 10wattx14 drives , is total 150 watt, then 50 watt for my mobo and 50 for cpu plus another 50 for remaining hardware..., gives total of +- 300watt.. I guess my 430watt psu will do then as long as i stay to green drives..
November 9, 201213 yr His name is seanant . I believe he is currently out of stock and no idea if he will be getting new ones any time soon. If you search the forum, you should find his for sale threads (There's a few of them). Keep in mind they sell quickly and their is a waiting list, so if you want one from him, it might be awhile... re: PSU: Check the link to the PSU thread. It's not just about watts. The amps are more important, and your 430 will be underpowered with 13 drives... Not saying it won't work, but you're asking for irritation down the road . Also, a larger PSU will give you room to grow if in a few years you decide to upgrade your server case to something larger (or add 5in3 drive cages, etc etc)
