November 18, 201213 yr THE INTRO: My server ran fairly stable for about a year and a half, then ceased to start up. I recently cannibalized my other desktop's PSU and graphics card and managed to get it to start up (it had been shutting down 2 seconds after hitting the power button). I've tweaked a million BIOS settings to turn off things I'm not using (audio, parallel/serial ports, etc.), and make sure that it's booting from the flash drive. All of this took an eternity, but here I am, everything should be good to go, right? THE ISSUE: I get to the screen where I select unRAID OS or Memtest86+. It loads bzimage and bzroot. Success! So far. On the next screen, all kinds of startup posting that I can't read flashes across the screen, and then...the computer turns off. OR I've also seen it hang on the line "scsi4 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices". See attached image for everything that was visible on the screen at that hang. Ideas, anybody? MY CURRENT SETUP: MSI K8N Neo4-F 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2 x 1024 MB DDR400 UnRaid 4.7 Plus (most recent official release); was working fine before computer (PSU + video card) crapped out
November 18, 201213 yr Try changing the BIOS setting for USB drive emulation. It should have several options. Try them all until one works.
November 18, 201213 yr Could also be a loose SATA cable after being in the case so much. Check all your SATA ends and make sure one's not cracked.
November 18, 201213 yr Author My mobo doesn't have an option for USB drive emulation. I currently have the USB controller enabled and support for USB keyboard/mouse disabled. For Boot Sequence, I have 1st/2nd/3rd Boot Devices disabled, "Boot From Other Device" enabled, and the "Other Device" is specified as 1st priority USB-HDD0 (and it correctly lists the specs for my flash drive. I don't believe I have any other options within BIOS for USB. Any other suggestions?
November 18, 201213 yr Author All SATA (and other) cables appear to be fine and firmly connected, and all 4 of my disc drives are recognized and displayed in BIOS.
