December 5, 201213 yr Need some help on what to do. I suspected I had a bad drive in slot 10 so popped in a new drive and did a rebuild. It completed successfully. I then decided to replace one of my other drives, slot 5, with a larger drive. I replaced it and did started a rebuild. During the rebuild, my system froze. It appears the drive in slot 10 which I replaced caused the problem as it was red (light on) while my rebuild stopped and all drives went green. I'm now suspecting it may be a problem with the slot in my icy cage dock but still not sure. I had to do a cold shut down. I played around with the cables and power to make sure then rebooted. Some of my drives where indicated as missing. Now I can go to the Devices and assign the drives in the slot but I'm wondering what exactly should I do. Should I put back in my old drive in slot 5 and do a parity check, then replace the drive and do a rebuild or should I just leave in the new drive and do a parity check? I'm guessing since the rebuild didn't complete a parity check would be the wrong thing to do at the moment...??
December 5, 201213 yr Author One other question. Can I restart the array leave the disk in slot 5 disabled just so I can check if my data looks ok on the disk in slot 10? What would happen if I put back both old disks? Will the system try to format them or can I start the array without rebuilding?
December 5, 201213 yr Author I brought the array online with disk 5 disabled. Disk 10 looks good. I can see all my data on it. So now just not sure what to do about disk 5. Put back the old drive or leave the new one in and do a parity check?
December 5, 201213 yr Author No I didn't do a parity check after the first rebuild. I assumed that if the rebuild completed, it would have meant that parity was good....oh oh... Actually I just assigned disk 5 to the slot and started the array as it said it would do a rebuild. It's doing the rebuild now. Once the rebuild finishes (hopefully it will), I'll do a parity check. I hope what I'm doing is ok?
