November 26, 201312 yr Thanks Kyle for helping us out... No worries, glad I could be of service in this regard. I actually got the idea for creating this script first from unetbootin (which stopped working for me), and then from the openelec forum. They had a script up there that somewhat worked on my Mac so I heavily modified it and went from there. The small c app i mentioned above was an afterthought in an attempt to make it easy for a newbie to unRAID and Mac.

The small c app i mentioned above was an afterthought in an attempt to make it easy for a newbie to unRAID and Mac. Sorry to revisit a 2 yr old thread but I'm running into the same exact problem as the OP. BIOS recognizes the USB drive but I can not boot. I'm using the latest beta unRAID zip file and following the super simple instructions but I'm having no luck. It sort of booted once but then froze. I have even tried a new flash drive. Running OS X 10.8.6 unRAID components are: Supermicro x10sl7 mobo Xeon 1241v3 No drives attached yet Is the easiest solution to just create a boot flash drive from a windows PC??
April 15, 201511 yr The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that the flash drive is not labeled unRAID. It may also be that the flash drive is a little "wonky" (<- technical term there). Try a couple other flash drives, even if they are to just testing the boot.

I thought that, too, so I bought a different flash drive and tried the OSX unRAID install. I've also made sure I named the volume UNRAID, all caps. No luck again...no boot. I ended up taking the new flash drive to work where I have a Windows PC, reformatted it, and made it bootable using the PC unRAID install. Came home and it booted! Today I brought the original flash drive (the "wonky" one) to work, reformatted it and made it bootable via Windows PC. And now it boots, too! Hate to say it; but maybe there's something wrong with the OSX version of the current unRAID beta? Or maybe just something wrong with my Mac?
