January 27, 201313 yr Hi everyone, Okay so maybe i'm taking this the wrong way around - i want to add an old Samsung 1TB HD104UJ to my array. I'm using Simple Features, so when i stop the array, i'm able to see the new drive in the Device Status Screen. When i select it to include it in my array, i get a blue "new disk, not in array" dot. So far, so good, i guess. The text mentions "Start will record the new disk information and bring the expanded array on-line. All new disks which have not been factory-erased will be cleared first, etc etc", but when i check the "Yes, I want to do this" tickbox and click on start, nothing happens. The array remains stopped, the new disk isn't being cleared. I've tried to preclear using a telnet session, but all i have is the following: Sorry: /dev/hde does not exist as a block device Clearing will NOT be performed edit: If i remove the drive from the array in the GUI, i can start the array just fine. Is there something wrong with the drive itself? Thanks for your support!
January 27, 201313 yr I think the first piece of advice you get here is to attach your syslog for better analysis. I think you might want to also try running SMART tests on the drive. That's the best place to start. Best of luck!
January 27, 201313 yr Author Okay, so here's my syslog. Does it looks like unRAID is trying to load specific drivers for the new drive but can't manage to do so? edit: and here's the SMART test for the new drive. smart.txt syslog.txt
January 27, 201313 yr Sorry: /dev/hde does not exist as a block device Clearing will NOT be performed You might try running preclear on /dev/sde... instead of /hde
January 27, 201313 yr Author Okay, i think i got things mixed up when checking the preclear topic: ...To invoke this script you simply list the name of a disk you wish cleared as an argument to the command, as in this example: cd /boot preclear_disk.sh /dev/hdk ... Anyway, preclearing has started now, thanks

January 28, 201313 yr Author Cheers, Joe! Preclearing is 59% complete now, hope this will help getting the drive operational in the array. edit: success \o/ thanks guys
