First of let's go ahead and say I'm not a hardware guy, this is just something I've attempted to throw together using newegg.

Anyway, here's the build, at the moment I'll probably only have 4 drives & a cache drive & a parity drive, however, I'll probably upgrade to greater than (>) 10 drives throughout time (E.G. as I need space):-

Case (Selling point would be the 12 5.25" drive bays):- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811815011

PSU (How many drives will this be able to power with this build? Including spin-up?):-  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703027

MOBO:- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182253

CPU:- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117286

RAM:- Two of:- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239223

Motherboard is way overkill. If you're going to spend anywhere near that amount, go for a real server motherboard. This one is almost $100 less than the one you listed. Lots of people on here, including myself, use it and it offers lots of future expandability for controller cards. IPMI allows complete remote management of the server, it's really awesome. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182253

Take some of the motherboard savings and just go for a Xeon processor. I, and quite a few others, use this one. Only $30 more than the Core i5 you listed. It is basically a Core i7-3770S for $75 dollars less and without the integrated graphics which are useless in this use case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117286

If you don't feel the need for something that powerful, go for the Core i3-3220. It's a great low powered chip with plenty of horse power to run the server and lots of plugins. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116775

RAM: Needs to be ECC. I use this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239370

Go for this PSU as it's known to work with that motherboard. I and a few others on here use it. Works great. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703027

Thanks, annoying thing about knowing absolutely nothing about hardware is that I can't have any opinion in the matter. Well, I've looked at the MOBO and it does seem like a better choice than mine (Which, probably if took a guess at random it'd be better than mine), so, I've updated the OP with that. As per the RAM however, I'm having a hard time finding that exact model that deliveries to the UK, so, I'll probably be buying 2*4GB (Same version):-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/KINGSTON-KVR16E11-ValueRAM-1600MHz-240-pin/dp/B0080K6ZP6

As for the CPU, I have no idea what I should pick, however, I guess I'll fall into the marketing of a "Server CPU", updated OP (Which, I don't have a clue what the difference is, google just replies something along the lines of "Lasts longer with constant heavy loads"). Last but not least, the PSU, if you've used it with this motherboard I guess I'll get it, same price, 100W more. Also updated OP.

Anything else?

That should work it is one of the following units (at least if you expand the "View all ?? results" anyway): Here is what Kingston says is compatible with X9SCM-F.  Once I find the model numbers there I look for them at my favorite online shop.

Hi Automatic. We basically have the same needs and are pretty much going to be buying the same thing. I see in one of your replies you talk about delivery in UK, so I'm assuming you're from the UK, where is the place to get this stuff? Have you any UK links?

Cheers

It's costing $900 (Already bought it at this point, so, I'll tell you how it goes when it comes) instead of the ~ $750 that newegg charges, but, I got everything off amazon excluding the hard-drives.

Just search for the model number/name on amazon.
