Is it time to upgrade from the D975XBX

Featured Replies

I have been running a 22 drive unraid 4.7 array with the Intel "Bad Ax" D975XBX board.

Lately I have been faced with constant crashes and lockups.  Rebooting seems to take long and longer as some drives have difficulty initializing during the bootup.

I am considering the Supermicro MBD-X9SCL+-F-O with IMPI with Xeon BX80637E31230V2.

1. I would get IMPI which would allow me to remotely control the server if it were to lockup or need to be rebooted.

2. I would get more CPU power in case I decide to add more features like running Air Video.

3. Would draw less power, less heat.

Would this be a good solution?  Are there other boards with IMPI that I am not aware of?  Or am I over thinking it?  Maybe I just need to clean up my unraid install and get it running smoothly again?

4. I am considering upgrading to version 5 of unraid.

Mainly I run FTP service on my unraid and I have several websites that are backed up daily to my unraid.  So I need better "up time"

Appreciate any advice.

Thank you!

I have just upgraded my old Intel DH55TC/i3-530 system to X9SCM-iiF/E3-1230V2, and I'm very happy with it.  In fact, it has resolved one issue I was having with the old system, and given me IPMI and fan speed control.

The SCM offers an additional PCIe x1 socket and two SATA3 ports over the SCL.

I would also recommend upgrading to V5.
