Recovering Files

Featured Replies

I a newb to unRAID..scratch that..been running it for the last year or so without issue and then all of a sudden we had a power issue at home and somehow unRAID is no longer recognizing 2 of my 3 drives.

3 500GB hard drives are in my homemade unRAID machine.

Is there any way to recover the files from the 1 drive unRAID does recognize?

You don't give us much to go on. System Log and unRAID version?

Do you have a parity disk? That would let you recover a single disk if all the other disks were OK but some more will have to be done to get to that point if possible.

Someone with more ReiserFS expertise than I have will have to get you out of this but in the meantime try to supply as much information as possible. And think about getting an UPS.

Thanks for the insight..as I said, I'm pretty new to this.

I'm running 4.7 and one of the 3 500GB drives was a parity disk.

I've attached my syslog as of this AM.

syslog.txt

Check the IDE cables. Reseat or replace the cables. The syslog is only 20 seconds long so it does not show much. Attach a longer syslog.

The cable to /dev/hdc is defective, or, it is an older 40 conductor cable designed for CD drives and not for hard-disks.

The parity disk and one data disk are disconnected or removed, or one is preventing the other from responding since they share an IDE cable.

If you used "round" IDE cables, get rid of them... They are not able to handle the higher speed drives.    Only use flat 80 conductor IDE cables.  They typically have a blue connector, a black connector, and a gray connector.

So...  right now, it looks like both of your IDE cables are bad, or, one disk and one cable, or all the above.  Or, you disconnected power from two of the drives accidentally.

Concentrate on the cables first.  Once you get two drives showing in your syslog as present, you can recover your data...
