[SOLVED] Sluggish framerate on new server. 5.0rc12

Featured Replies

After moving all my drives into my new server (Tams), there's something strange about the network performance.  I'm streaming wireless to an ATV2, and I'm seeing sluggish framerates on HD files.  Same files, same router, same ATV2.  The only thing different is the server.  Now- the peculiar thing is; I can concurrently watch an HD file on my PC (same one or different one), and it plays fine.  It seems as though the server is more than capable of serving the data, but something is different....and that something isn't sitting well with my ATV2.  (I've restarted server, router, ATV2 many times this morning)

(Gigabit router, ATV2, x264 file, quad-core server.)

Please....anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

[glow=red,2,300]UPDATE:[/glow]

I discovered my problem:  A cordless phone base was causing interference with my wireless.  The cordless phone's connection just happened to coincide with the introduction of the new server into my system, and its interference was just enough to hinder HD streams (my movies).  My routine weekly TV streaming is SD; TV shows,  so it wasn't apparent.

The first thing I'd isolate is whether this is a wireless issue or an issue between the server and the Apple TV.

Connect the ATV2 to the router with a wired connection and see if you still have the problem.

It's amazing how useful my 100' Ethernet cable can be for helping friends isolate these kind of issues!!  If you need one, they're only $13 at monoprice  :)

[... they're $2 less if you get Cat-5e, but I never buy anything but Cat-6 these days]

Thanks for the suggestion, Gary.

As you may see from my update, I create my own problems!  Not only did it take me forever to deduce the cause, but by the time I [did], I'd created a myriad of other problems for myself.  I [am] my own worst enemy.

Glad you figured it out.    As you may have already realized, if you had a long Cat-6 cable and had tried what I suggested initially, you'd have immediately realized it was purely a wireless issue ... and that MAY have triggered the thought about the other wireless device you had also added  :)
