June 19, 201313 yr HI Guys, Hoping you can work this one out for me because I can't. I've got a bigger and faster USB3 stick to boot off and put my plex library on as plex keeps my cache drive awake for no reason at all. However, I get an issue whereby it causes it to go into read only mode, which you can imagine, causes some issues. USB2 stick on USB3 port is fine. Cheers! syslogUSB3.txt
June 19, 201313 yr I guess you did already chkdsk it on a windows machine (or used dosfsck) and it returns to this problem? Anyway I would just try to backup all files on a windows machine and re-format it then restore files, if you didn't tried it yet.

The plugins were copied across at a later point...
June 19, 201313 yr I would strongly advise against having your Plex library on the USB thumb drive. All of the constant activity from Plex (reads/writes) that caused your cache drive to not spin down will lead to a very fast death for the USB thumb drive. They are not meant to be written to constantly.

If you want to store your Plex library on your boot device you need to get something with SLC based flash that is meant to last a long time with lots of write cycles. Either that or get a small SSD and mount it outside your array and put your Plex library on that.
June 20, 201313 yr Booting from USB3 can be problematic for many many reasons. I wouldn't recommend it at this point in time.

I'm not convinced that it does write that much, only once every 15 or so minutes which is enough to prevent my system from sleeping. Either way, it has a 10 year warranty so I'm far from bothered on that front if it does die. I currently don't have any spare SATA ports left, so unless I mount the stick and run it directly off that? Booting from USB3 can be problematic for many many reasons. I wouldn't recommend it at this point in time. As above, I might try adding the USB stick for the library on its own and continue to boot off the current stick. Out of curiosity, why not boot!?!? Surely by now this kind of thing should work properly. Jun 19 07:35:39 Tower emhttp: unclean shutdown detected how are you shutting down your system? Ignore that error, that was a power cut. Edit: Whoops, wrong button...
