July 2, 201313 yr hi all running Unraid 4.7, i have 1x 1tb, 2x 1.5tb data drives and would like to replace these 3 with 2x2tb data drives. all drives are fine with no issues in unraid, im just trying to save some energy my parity is already a 2tb drive what order should i replace them in? i need to preclear the 2x2tb drives first though so this will be the first step, but not sure in what order i replace the 3 old drives with the 2 new drives any advise much appreciated! thanks
July 2, 201313 yr Replace the 1TB drive first. Then either of the 1.5TB drives. Finally, copy all the data from the remaining old drive and then Remove it from the system after selecting Utils->New Config. Backup the Flash drive and do a parity check before and after making changes to the array.

Thanks when you say "copy all the data from the remaining old drive" do you mean do a cut and paste in windows from the remaining 1.5tb drive to the new 2tb?

Thanks when you say "copy all the data from the remaining old drive" do you mean do a cut and paste in windows from the remaining 1.5tb drive to the new 2tb? If you go down this path, I would do a 'copy' and 'paste'--- Not a 'cut' and 'paste'. That way, if there are any problems, the data will still be on the old 1.5TB drive. (With a cut, the data is erased!) By the way, if you spin the drives down, the power you will save will be virtually unmeasurable. The only time when all four drives would normally be spun up is during a parity check.
