Best way to stress array?

Featured Replies

I'm recovering from a possible bad disk or possible connection issues. I'm leaning toward connection issues so I swapped out sata cable. I want to make sure once and for all that it is fixed, what is the best way to stress the server so if there is another issue it will come up now not 3 months from now?

Did you pre-clear your disk?

in answer to your question the best way to stress the system is run a parity check and do a file copy to the array at the same time, this will cause maximum stress.

but as whiteatom states if you have had drive issues i would make sure the drive is healthy by looking at the smart report, if you have any current pending sectors you MUST run a pre-clear on the drive and get the current pending sector count to 0 before you add the drive back to the array.

I had someone in another thread check out my smart reports and was told everything was looking good. I'm not at home now but I will give them a 2nd look.

Can I preclear a drive with data on it? I'm thinking i'd lose whatever on it right?

You cannot preclear a disk assigned t the array.

Yes, it will be completely zeroed and all data on it will be lost.
