September 9, 201312 yr I really hate Linux and command line so doing this is way out of my comfort zone but my server has locked up a few times and I've decided to obtain a smart report to find out why. I finally managed to use telnet and get the report but it only seems to be for a single drive how do I do it for all the drives?
September 9, 201312 yr Install UnMenu .... then you can easily get Smart reports without the need to do anything with Linux. It DOES require that you log into the server one time to install UnMenu
September 10, 201312 yr Author I was doing that and my Server locked up again but this time it's connected to my monitor so I could see if anything was happening. Any idea what all this means and does any it explain why the server becomes unresponsive?
September 10, 201312 yr Author Yeah it was when I took that screenshot. It also locked up just now without all that info, I also now can't access it through the browser. Anyway it only just occurred to me to run memtest as I saw the option there and I think this explains my troubles.
September 10, 201312 yr Author Of course it didn't happen when DDR2 ram is dirt cheap and I'm pretty sure I don't have a spare lying around. Cheers folks.
September 10, 201312 yr Prices are relative ... DDR2 is plenty cheap compared to historical memory prices. The first memory card I bought for a computer at home was a 4K (yes, K) card that cost me $1200
September 10, 201312 yr Author Prices are relative ... DDR2 is plenty cheap compared to historical memory prices. True still stings a bit I think I paid £25 for 8GB of DDR3 but now I could pay little more than that for 2GB DDR2 :'(
September 10, 201312 yr You only need 2GB. RAM usually has a lifetime warrantee but they will want you to verify that the MB is not at fault, so you'll need a DIMM to test. If the RAM is bad they'll send you new chips.

If the RAM is bad they'll send you new chips. Most RAM does indeed have a "lifetime" warranty ... but there's a catch ==> it's not transferable ... and to confirm that hasn't happened you need your receipt. In addition, with the continuously increasing densities, it's usually simpler to just buy new modules. [Although perhaps not in this case, since you don't need anything larger than what you have]

I wasn't buying 8GB DRR3 for my server just using that as an example of what I paid for the RAM in my main PC and I'm using DDR2 in my Server which is fairly expensive.
September 11, 201312 yr Actually, this is a good opportunity to quadruple (or more) the memory in your server I note from MemTest that you only have 512M of RAM now ... you COULD actually replace that at a pretty low cost: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/512mb-dane-elec-celenade-ddr2-pc6400-800mhz-240-pin-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-5-5-5-12-retail ... but I do NOT recommend that. Get at least 2GB !!

Get at least 2GB !! Yeah I've already bought 4GB of DDR2, it's used so it's a bit of a risk but it's less than half the price of new RAM so fingers crossed.
