October 8, 201312 yr So I have been having issues with hard drive errors on 1 of my 6 data drives. Here are my specs: Unraid Server Pro v4.7 Parity Drive: Seagate 2TB - ST2000DL003-9VT1_5YD12EWC Disk 1: WD 2TB - WDC_WD2001FASS-0_WD-WMAY00217834 Disk 2: Hitachi 1TB - Hitachi_HDT72101_STF604MR1P6TYP Disk 3: WD 2TB - WDC_WD20EARS-00M_WD-WCAZA8740882 (jumpered) Disk 4: Seagate 160GB - ST3160813AS_9SY01QNS Disk 5: WD 2TB - WDC_WD2001FASS-0_WD-WMAY00197878 Disk 6: WD 2TB - WDC_WD20EFRX-68A_WD-WCC300744581 The Disk 5 is the one I am having errors on in the WebGUI. They have been high in the past but after restarting the server a couple days ago they are only at 64 right now. I have attached the syslog, preclear log, and smart results. I ran "reiserfsck --check" but upon completion nothing appeared wrong as it did not direct me to do anything. I am in the middle of upgrading some of my smaller drives, but before I use my last drive I want to make sure that I don't need to replace this disk 5 instead. Any help is appreciated. logs.zip
October 8, 201312 yr Disk 5 has a lot of pending sectors. Replace it and then run pre-clear on it. If the pending sectors go to zero, the disk should be good to use. Run at least 2 preclear cycles for good measure.
October 8, 201312 yr Author I will do that now. What told you that?? Is that something you found in the syslog? I will not be able to post back until next week because I will be out of town. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks.
October 17, 201312 yr Author OK. I have run preclear twice on this drive and attached the new smart report. The preclear finished and said "202 sectors are pending re-allocation at the end of the preclear, a change of 123 in the number of sectors pending." Let me know what you think and if this hard drive is shot or can be added back to my system. Thanks in advance. smart.txt
October 17, 201312 yr You should never add a drive to your array that already HAS pending sectors. You might try preclearing it some more until the pending sectors go to zero. If they don't go away then you will need to RMA the drive.
