Data Rebuild Loop

Featured Replies

I upgraded from RC15 to V5 final; went well, no problems.  I changed my cache disk to an SSD; appeared to go well with no problems.  I swapped one of my data drives for a new WD Red 3 TB (same size as disk being replaced); rebuild started as expected and finished in about 9-9.5 hours.  I put my system to sleep and when I woke it up again, the cache disk was missing and the rebuilt drive said it was the wrong drive.  I reassigned the cache disk and started array, another data rebuild started again.  Is my config not being updated?  Am I going to have this issue after every reboot or system wake up?  What might be causing this problem?

I ran chkdsk on my Windows machine on the flash drive in case I had the read-only filesystem problem.

Here is the syslog:

Hmmm, I see super.dat write errors in the syslog right after disk1 rebuild.  Looks like config is not being updated.  My current rebuild will likely fail as well for same reason.  Suggestions?

The errors at the end of the log indicates SATA cable problems with 2 drives:

The flash is having write problems as well. What model PSU?

I have a Corsair CX430 PSU.  I have seven drives (1 Parity, 5 Data, 1 Cache-SSD).  Should be plenty of wattage for my config and it has been running flawlessly for about two years.

Fortunately, I also have the Kinsgton MobileLite G2 flash reader with an 8GB flash card should it turn out the flash card is bad.

Reformat the flash or swap in a backup. Check the cabling.

I am preparing a backup flash card now.  Of course, it has the old super.dat on it prior to SSD cache and Disk 1 swap.  Can I just cancel the rebuild in progress knowing that I am going to have to do another rebuild anyway to update the config on this second flash card?

Yes. You'll have to manually disable the disk then rebuild.
