October 25, 201312 yr I want to split one of my arrays into 2. Do I:- 1st array. Run a parity check Stop the Unraid Power down Remove the drives I want to put in the 2nd array Power up but don't start Do the init config Run parity Start the array 2nd array Install new Unraid usb and drives (from array 1 and a new parity drive) Power on Assign drives including new parity drive Run parity Start the array
October 25, 201312 yr That's almost right, except that you don't "run parity" before you Start the array -- it will do the parity sync after the array is started. I would, however, do it very slightly different ==> For both of the "new" arrays I'd only assign the data drives; then Start the array and confirm I had everything correct ... and THEN Stop the array; assign the parity drive; and Start the array to do the parity sync. Also, after the initial parity sync, do a parity check to confirm all went well (the sync does not do a verification).
October 27, 201312 yr I just did an initconfig on my server. I had to start the array and then click a button called build parity or something like that. It didn't start building the parity when I hit the start button.
October 27, 201312 yr Author I've not done it yet. My daughter has been ill, hopefully I'll have chance to do it tonight.
November 1, 201312 yr Author So after a long week I finally got chance to do this. Everything went well except there are no shares but when I go to \\tower I can see all the data on disc1, disk2 etc. How do I get the shares back? I'm running 5.0
November 1, 201312 yr The root-level folders should automatically be seen as shares. i.e. if you have a folder called MyStuff on disk1 [\\tower\disk1\MyStuff] it should be accessible as \\Tower\MyStuff You may have to go to the Shares tab and define it with v5 => I'd check that real quick but I'm not at home at the moment.
November 1, 201312 yr Author I'm at work now so I cant check but if they DO need redefining. Do I go to the shares tab and create a share called, for example music. Then all the folders called music on all the drives will show up in the new share called music?
November 1, 201312 yr Yes, that's correct. When you create share (e.g. "Music") then on every disk that's part of that share, there will be a folder named "Music". If that folder already exists, it will automatically be part of the share.
November 1, 201312 yr If the directories are there then you don't need to create the shares. If the shares don't show up then try a reboot. If they still don't show then you likely have a bigger issue, such as a corrupt flash drive. Use a PC to check it.
November 2, 201312 yr One more fundamental issue: Check on the Settings tab under Share settings. You have to Enable user shares -- in fact, I suspect that's your issue
November 2, 201312 yr Sorry I didn't think of that earlier -- it just finally hit me that if you had all the correct top-level folders, shares most likely simply weren't enabled !!
