November 29, 201312 yr I set a password for root user and when hit submit received page not found screen. I can still access all shares, and the password change did go into effect as I use it when logging into telnet session to unraid. When I try to start the service with the command "nohup /usr/local/sbin/emhttp &" the response just sits on screen with no other notifications. I can either ctrl + c to stop or close reopen telnet. I am running 5.03. Thanks in advance. root@Tower:~# nohup /usr/local/sbin/emhttp & [1] 3438 root@Tower:~# nohup: ignoring input and appending output to `nohup.out'
November 29, 201312 yr Author Update, I read through forum and found few older threads of earlier versions of UnRaid which hopefully are still valid. I followed a process to manually shutdown the array, and navigated to the flash drive and deleted the passwd file followed by a reboot which restored the web service. Array was still valid and no automatic rebuilding of parity so I guess all is back to working minus users that I had setup.
November 29, 201312 yr From what I understand from the forum one cannot simply restart emhttp after it crashes (see below )...... However, there is a thread covering the process: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=27085.0 which involves some steps but in some cases would do just the trick.
November 29, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the reply, yes that is the thread I followed to safely shutdown my server for a reboot after I deleted the passwd and shadow file from my usb->config. I guess changing root password is not allowed. Be nice if the option was not even available if this is the case. Was just in the process of making my shares a little more secure and server as well. Oh well no big deal its not open to the internet anyhow.
December 1, 201312 yr Author Yes, that is where I changed the root password which caused emhttp to crash on me.
December 2, 201312 yr did you use unusual characters in the password? might be a bug when using odd passwords. perhaps try to replicate, and if it does, then email Tom.
