[SOLVED] Upgrade from rc 16 to 5.0.4. UNRAID not recognizing disks

Featured Replies

I tried to upgrade to UNRAID 5.0.4 from rc 16.  I followed these instructions;

    5.0-rc9 through 5.0-rc16c

Prepare the flash: either shutdown your server and plug the flash into your PC or Stop the array and perform the following actions referencing the flash share on your network:

Copy the files bzimage, bzroot, and syslinux.cfg from the zip file to the root of your flash device, overwriting the same-named files already there.

Reboot your server. Once boot-up has completed, you should see "Stopped. Configuration valid." array status with all disks assigned correctly. Some users have reported having to re-run 'make_bootable' script on the flash.

Upon reboot, I get the message "Could not find kernel image : /syslinux/menuc32"  and it doesn't boot

I then decided to copy my config folder from the flash drive and followed these instructions:

Step 1: Plug the Flash into your PC and re-format it using Windows:

Open My Computer (XP) or Computer (Vista/Win7), right-click your Flash device and select Format…

For File system, leave what Windows sets as default.

For Volume label, enter UNRAID (all-caps).

Select Quick Format and click Start.

Step 2: Click on your Flash device (to open it) and drag the entire contents of the unRAID Server release zip file to the Flash.

Step 3: For Windows XP, click the file make_bootable.  A DOS window will open and run the syslinux utility on the Flash.  For Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click the file make_bootable and select Run as administrator.

Step 4: Once again, right-click your Flash device in My Computer or Computer and select Eject.  Your Flash device is now ready to boot into unRAID Server OS.

I copied my config folder back and rebooted.  Now, after login, UNRAID doesn't know any of my disks, and is showing as basic (I was pro at rc 16)

My array is stopped and I have not done anything further.  May someone please advise how to proceed?

thank you

Sounds as if you no longer have the .key file that contains your pro key on the flash drive.

thanks for your reply.  It is there though.

From the image I see 2 .key files.  I wonder if there is confusion about that by unRAID and if you delete the ._pro.key file your problems will go away.
