Featured Replies

Hi,

i ran this command "dmesg|grep SATA|grep link", here's what i got:

ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata7: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata5: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 0)

ata6: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 0)

ata2: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)

ata3: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata4: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata8: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata9: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata10: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)

ata11: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata12: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata13: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata14: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata15: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata16: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata11: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps

ata11: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)

ata11: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

is my ata11 limited to 1.5gbps or not? (if yes, it doesn't make sense to me - all my drives are SATA II...)

anyway, what command should i use to see what drive is connected to this SATA port?

all my drives are SATA II ...

Check to see if any of the drives have a jumper on them for the interface speed.  Many SATA-II drives can be jumpered to limit the interface speed 1.5Gbps.    Another possibility is a cable that isn't reliable at the higher rate ... which the controller will recognize and restrict to the lower speed.

Note, however, that it likely makes NO difference in the performance of your system.  No rotating platter drive has a sustained transfer rate above 150MB/s (SATA-I speed) anyway, except a few 1TB/platter drives on the outermost cylinders ... so the real difference in performance between a 1.5Gbps interface and 3.0Gbps interface is essentially nil unless you're using SSDs.

ata11: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps
ata11: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)
ata11: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

ata11 is up at 3 GBPS.
