Anyone have a Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard?

Featured Replies

I thought about putting this in the motherboard section but thought this fit better an it is for support and not server building. Sorry if I got that wrong.

Anyway, does anyone have a Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-U5D mobo? Mine recently suffered a component failure and I am attempting to fix it but cannot find a manual or photo of the component to find out what I need to replace. I contacted Gigabyte but they have yet to respond. It is a transistor. Here is a photo of where it is located:

It is Q298, to the upper right of the top most SATA cable.

Can anyone send me a photo of it? Much appreciated.

... Note, however, that there's undoubtedly a reason that part failed -- so unless you accidentally caused the damage and know what did it, then a new part is likely to simply fail in the same way.

You might see if this seller would be kind enough to have a look at the board and give you the part number:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIGABYTE-GA-MA790FX-UD5P-/400619065384?pt=AU_Components&hash=item5d46c1d028

I wouldn't bother with pictures, etc. ... just ask if he'd be kind enough to tell you the detailed part # for Q298, located to the upper right of the top-most SATA connector.

i did see that and thought of that until i realized it was the wrong motherboard. it is very similar and likely the same controller and part but i really dont want to risk it.

i realize that but after examining it it looks like it was chipped. no signs of it "blowing". i may have dropped something on it. i seem to vaguely recall something like that happening, me dropping something and thinking i might have broke something but not find anything nor any issues so i ignored it, but that might just be my brain filling in the holes with false memories.

that and it could have just been that particular part was just faulty and somehow made it past qc. it's a $1 fix and if it does fail in the same way, it will likely be 5 years away just as this was.

I'd think it's almost certain that the basic circuitry is the same ... especially if the part is labeled the same (i.e. Q29B).    Certainly wouldn't hurt to ask and see if you get a response  :)

Looks like the exact model has shown up on ebay. I'm messaging the guy now and hopefully he will oblige me. But I know for a fact I'm not the only one on this board that has (or did have) one...
