January 15, 201412 yr Author So as an update on my original issue. I changed all the older sata cables with new ones and also swapped the psu for a Corsair TX650M. I also added a 1tb cache disk plus an additional 4tb WD Green drive. Everything seems to be running fine with the exception of, when I got home this evening all the green balls were flashing and none were displaying temperature info for the drives (this was before I swapped out the last of the older cables). EDIT: So it seems the green ball flashing simply indicates the drive has spun down due to inactivity? So my thought now is to run the server for a day or so, copying files onto it and making sure everything keeps working correctly. Once I am satisfied everything is good I think I will at that point dump the array (not sure how to do that yet ) and start with a fresh install using pre-clear to check all the disks before finally copying my data to the fully tested server.
