Auto shutdown of VM

Featured Replies

Anyone figured out how to auto shutdown VM's upon array offline is issued, or when apcusd issues shutdown command?

I believe "xl shutdown [vm-id] does the trick.  If I'm right then it is just a matter of incorporating that into the powerdown scripts

yes, jumper, you are correct.

these are the sorts of things that beta's are for ;)

That said, I'm not sure I want my VMs shutting down etc everytime I stop / start the array. Maybe there's a way round this with manual mnt points in fstab?

If your VM's live on the unraid array, it's necessary to shut them down BEFORE the array stops. If they live on a separate drive, then timing is a little less tricky, but assuming the VM is saving and reading data from the array, it's cleaner if all the VM's stop before the array does.

I can see two classes of VM's, a class that relies on the array for functionality, and a class that need to be independent. A firewall router VM should be independent, a media manager VM would need to stop with the array.

It would be helpful to have a way of differentiating between the two in the startup and shutdown routines.
