February 6, 201412 yr Is there a client for xen similar to the one ESXi uses? I have a limited number of PICe slots and do not want to have to pass though one for a GPU. I am not very familiar with Linux but would like to try getting a distro with a GUI installed so I can set up TVheadend and XBMC (for library sync not for watching).
February 6, 201412 yr Hi If I understand you correctly.... You don't need to pass through a GPU for a VM to work. I've got unRAID 6 booting the Xen Kernel and have a Windows 7 VM running in that. This VM has no GPU and runs my TV tuner and Whole House media services (Argus TV / Media Portal). You could set a Linux VM up in a similar way to run your preferred software. If I need to access it to configure, I do so via VNC, either from another machine or from a VM on the same unRAID box that does have GPU passthrough. Hope that helps Peter
February 6, 201412 yr Author Is there plans for one? So is the only way to view a VM's desktop is to passthrough a graphics card? Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
February 6, 201412 yr the once with a desktop you can access with VNC the once without a desktop you can access by console no need for passthru as long as you don't expect to see a movie or watch flash porn on your vm
