March 17, 201412 yr Just wondering... does unraid itself, or has any third party worked on a tool to 'unsplit' data amongst multiple drives? As my system grows and drives get swapped out with larger capacity units, I'm encountering situations where I could consolidate all of my data for a specific share down to one drive. The goal being to only have to spin up one drive if I'm working with a particular share to access its data. I do this manually from time to time, but was wondering if anyone has something that might assist with this task... I've had some situations where I tried this locally on the box but got into some oddball permissions issues and such...so I've reverted to doing this from a remote box, which obviously slows down this whole procedure quite a bit. Thanks, Pete
March 17, 201412 yr No - once data is on a drive unRAID has no automated function to move data to another drive. If you want to do this it is a manual process using the drive level shares.
March 17, 201412 yr This is an ugly hack that gets you one step closer http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2689.msg27208#msg27208 ideally resurect that thread if you want to talk about it
March 17, 201412 yr Author Great, thanks...yeah, i'm just thinking that something like this would be nice for longer term users.. Obviously you can set some strict guidelines so things don't completely out of control right from the start, but as drive sizes increase and costs come down, the need to optimize things things comes in handy. Thanks, I'll check other thread out... Pete
