March 21, 201412 yr Hello I’m running unRAID Pro V5.05. As I whole it’s running great, I couldn’t be happier. The issue that I am having is after 7-10 days of the system running fine it slows down considerably, and I’m eventually unable to connect to it via web or telnet (locally), and I need to login “locally” (using IPMI) to run the installed powerdown script. Once I turn it back on, the system is fine, for another 7-10 days. My hunch is that this may be sabnzbd related. I first tried to install sabnzbd using unmenu, but I had some issues, so I tried to uninstall it. I then re-installed sabnzbd using these instructions: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Setting_Up_SABnzbd,_SickBeard,_and_CouchPotoato , and that SEEMED to work. At first it was working, but now it’s not autostarting sabnzbd upon each boot. I know something is amiss because this what what my login screen looks like: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xliznjmkgojczty/unraid_login.jpg I’m wondering if perhaps my initial sabnzbd uninstall was unsuccessful, and I have dueling instances of it? How can make sure both versions are fully uninstalled? I’m more concerned right now with getting the system running stable since I’m about to leave town for work for a while. I can deal with installing sabnzbd when I get back. You can find my full part list here: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/happymaan/saved/3oS8 Here is a current syslog file, I can try to capture another one once the system gets slow again if needed: https://www.dropbox.com/s/y2509030qveiy8j/syslog.txt And here's a photo so you can see how sexy this new server is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/12w5i4qcsueroex/2014-03-12%2019.52.18.jpg Thanks for your help. If there’s any other information I can supply that would assist please let me know.
March 21, 201412 yr I'd do two things: (1) Remove all add-ons and just run stock UnRAID for a couple weeks, to confirm that's not related to your shutdown issue. (2) I'd reverse the mounting of the power supply, so it's pulling in new, filtered air through the bottom filters and not interior air that's already warm. The airflow in that case is excellent -- the power supply doesn't need to modify that in any way ... and pulling in air through the bottom and exhausting it out the back is probably best for it anyway. I doubt this is related to your problem ... I just noticed how you had it mounted.
March 21, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the advice. 1. I can't really run stock unRAID for a couple of weeks as a test, since I'm leaving town for a few months soon. My wife will be staying home, so I can have her login and do the restarting if needed, but I'd rather that not happen. I do want to remove plugins, but I tried to remove the sabnzbd plugin before, and I think I may have been unsuccessful. How do I make sure both versions of sabnzbd are removed? 2. Yeah, that totally makes sense, I'll flip it tonight, thanks! If I did want to simply re-install unraid stock, that is safe to do if I only re-install it on the flash drive right? All my data/partitions on the data drives will be recognized by a fresh install? Thanks again.
March 21, 201412 yr Yes. All should work fine. Nothing changes on the array. If you wipe the flash and reinstall, you'll have to setup the 'configuration' of shares and userids, of course. But unRAID should find all the disks right away. I always keep a screenshot of the unRAID main webpage showing the drive assignments, and keep it on my Mac. If something does go wrong, its important that you NOT assign the parity drive as a data drive by mistake. (and that you don't assign a data drive as parity.) Either way could result in data loss, or loss of parity protection. The screenshot shows the serial numbers of the drives, so you're able to tell which is which.
March 21, 201412 yr Author Cool, thanks Dale, I do have everything labeled very well, so I'll be careful to do that. I think a fresh install may be the way to go. I can deal with making it fancy again once I get back home again.
March 21, 201412 yr If you do a complete fresh install, you can -- if you're CERTAIN you did a clean shutdown of the old system before switching flash drives -- use the "Trust Parity" checkbox and eliminate the need to do a parity sync. Be CERTAIN, however, that you've assigned the correct drive to parity and (if you have one) cache ... and all other drives as data drives.
