Changing SPLIT LEVEL on unRAID share that is already established.

Featured Replies

Good morning,

I have a share that has it's split level currently set at 2 that I'd like to change to split level 0. Another person set it at split level 2 and I'd like to know if it's possible to change it and what effect it's going to have?

I'm guessing it will leave the data that was copied prior to the level 2 split level in that format and moving forward will use split level 0, is that correct? If I move the data off the share make the change and put it back on I'm assuming it will use the split level 0 settings?

Any advice is appreciated.

Yes - you can change Split level at any time.  It only applies when creating new files or folders.

By the way, the same is true for allocation method, includes, and excludes.  You can freely change these parameters anytime you want => the changes ONLY apply to new writes to the disk.

They have NO bearing on any data already in the array.  For example, if a share resides on disks 1,2,3, and 4; and you change it by setting an Include to only use disk2, then all new data for the share will be written to disk2; but all of the data already on disks 1,3, and 4 will still be part of the share when you access it.
