[SOLVED] Memory Stick wiped - Data still on drives

Featured Replies

Hello,

There was a massive mess-up on my part and I ended up wiping some files from the memory stick.

I have reformatted the stick and reinstalled Unraid (Seizing the opportunity to update to 5.05 and to install a better network card)

but now that that is back up and the network is identified I have a question.

How do I reassign my drives?

in the past SDB was Parity SDC Was Drive 1 SDD Was Drive 2 and SDE was Cache.

Now the SDE is easy to identify because it's an SSD but IF i did not move any cables inside my computer is it safe to assume that the other three are still the same?

Once I get this up and running again I'll screen shot the assign page so I have the serial numbers matched up but that won't help me this time.

Also if I reassign them where do I go from there?

Sorry to bug you all with my amateur mistake...

Thanks

No, it's not safe to assume they'll have the same designators.  If you don't have a record of which drive was which by serial number, then just do the following ...

I assume you know which drive was the cache, as it was most likely a smaller drive than the others.

As for the other drives:

=> Assign ALL drives as data drives.  Start the array and see which drive(s) show as Unformatted.  Do NOT allow these to be formatted.

=> Do a New Config and just assign the drives that didn't require formatting to the array ... with no parity drive.    Start the array -- then access it from your PC and confirm you can see all your data okay.

=>  Now Stop the array and assign the drive that needed formatting as the parity drive.  Start the array and let it do the initial parity sync.    When it's done (in a few hours) do a parity check to confirm all went well.  Done  :)

That looks like it fixed it! I'm doing the parity sync now.

I'm going to make sure I keep a copy of my serial numbers now...won't make this mistake again.

Thank you so much for your time!
