April 9, 201412 yr Here's the specs of the machine I plan on building: Motherboard: SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 RAM: Kingston 8GB 1600 ECC PCI Cards: LSI-9211 SAS Expansion RAID Card Drives: 3x 4TB WD Green Case: Custom Wooden or Rosewill RSV-L4500 Rackmount I plan on doing raw Bluray rip streaming to my HTPC, Roku, and 2 tablets using Plex's transcoding (2 concurrent 1080P streams max). Are the above specs overkill for this application? I want this thing to be rock solid and outlast my other PC components (looking at 5+ years). Thoughts, criticisms, etc. are much appreciated. Thanks!
April 9, 201412 yr Ive been running that motherboard and processor for about a year now. It will do exactly as you wish without issue!
April 9, 201412 yr Also have the same board and CPU, Transcodes 3-4 streams with no issues. My guess is more streams and it might start to struggle but I have never tried to break it.
