April 19, 201412 yr Just a quick question out of curiosity, but does unRaid play well with SSHD drives? I recently replaced two of my normal spinner drives with SSHD drives.. 1 is a 2 TB Seagate SSHD on the array, and the other is a 1 TB Seagate SSHD that I used as a Cache. Now I'm getting I/O errors from both these drives. It could totally be coincidence that this is happening but I wanted to find out if anyone had a similar experience from these drives, or whether people have had luck putting them in the array or cache drive status and working flawlessly?
April 20, 201412 yr I'm not a big believer in coincidence ... but on the other hand, it should make NO difference whether the drives are standard spinners or SSHD units => the cache on the SSHD is entirely internally managed. The only electrical difference is that a lot more of the transfers are going to happen at interface speed, rather than being limited to the sustained transfer rate of the platters. Did you make any other changes at the same time? e.g. new controller; using different SATA ports; etc. ?? Also, I'd try a different set of SATA cables -- and be certain the ones you use are rated for SATA-3 rates. Most rotating platter drives actually work fine on a SATA-3 interface with older SATA or SATA-2 rated cables; but because an SSHD is likely to stress the interface more, it's likely to be much "pickier" about the cables [an SSD would have the same issue of course].
April 20, 201412 yr One of my servers has a Momentus XT running as the cache drive, never seen any issues.
