Which sata port? Blue or grey?

Featured Replies

My Rosewill RSV-L4411 has 2 sets of sata ports on the back of the drive cages. One set is blue the other is grey. The owners manual for this case is <sarcasm> rather incomplete </sarcasm>. Not sure what the difference is between the ports or which set to use.

most commonly, blue means USB 3.0 port anything else is USB 2.0

some mfg. just use "SS" markings to identify the 3.0 ports if the same color ports used.

so I would hazard a guess that you have 2xUSB3.0 and 2xUSB2.0 ports.

not sure if it matters for unraid though. the worst case scenario is you will not get the full speed out of the port but if you are running unraid from it it is not critical.

Not sure what the USB 2/3 discussion in the previous post has to do with it...

The only pictures that I have seen show four SATA connectors and two 4-pin Molex style power connectors.  Are you saying that you have more than four SATA connections for each drive cage?

Also found this video on youtube that may / may may not help...

also some good info here...  http://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/rosewill-rsv-l4411-review.1074/

my bad.

I subconsciously read USB not SATA    ::):-[:o

sorry

I am not aware of any special meaning for SATA port coloring other than for the mfg to identify specific port or set of ports to the user.

in your case it simply might mean to identify set of ports used for top 2 drives and bottom  2 drives maybe?!

I have seen MB where they had mix of SATA 2 and SATA 3 ports so the later were black where the other were red. but that was MB  not drive cage.

You're right. Don't know what I was thinking. :-[

Must have been some wild dream last night. Went back and looked at the photos and there is only one set of sata ports. DUH

Thanks for the links though.
