April 24, 201412 yr I plan on using the locking 18" sata cables that came with my Rosewill RSV-L4411. I'll probably go ahead and bundle the various power cables, but I've seen more than a few posts regarding problems with cross-talk when sata cables are bundled together. Makes me wonder if I wouldn't be better off to run them individually. Might not look quite as neat, but who's going to see it after the cover is on. Any suggestions? Opinions?
April 24, 201412 yr It really depends on the specific cables ... but the safest approach is to not bundle them. Having said that, high quality cables are very well insulated, and if you're using them at lower than interface speeds, it's fairly unlikely you'll have problems. Most newer UnRAID systems have SATA-3 controllers; but NO rotating platter drive can come close to SATA-3 rates for sustained transfers, so a very tiny percentage of the activity on the line is going to be at interface speed (only transfers to/from the disk's buffer). I've done it both ways -- and have never had issues except with some old SATA cables that weren't even rated for SATA-2 speeds.
