cros13
Okay... so I started my build today. Apart from the nasty surprise that I was minus one of the CPUs (stuck in customs) everything went smooth. I'll add the extra CPU as soon as it gets here. So my initial plan was a PC-323 case which then became a 4U i7-4771 build: Case: X-CASE RM 424 PRO CPU: Intel Core i7 4771 Motherboard: Supermicro MBD-X10SAT-O Controllers: 3 x AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 PSU: Seasonic X-1250 1250W PSU NIC: Intel X520-T2 Dual 10-Gigabit Server Adapter OS Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 512GB Cache Drive: OCZ IBIS HDSL SSD 240GB Storage Drives: 11 x 4TB Seagate Hybrid, 3 x 3TB WD Green, 4 x 2TB Assorted, 4 x 500GB Hitachi I quickly realised with the amount of transcoding going on with Plex I needed more horsepower. I also need the case to be smaller. So here's what I'm in the middle of building: Case: X-CASE RM 424-S (550mm version of the 424) CPU: Dual Intel Xeon E5-2695 v2 (12-core, 2.4Ghz for a total of 24 cores) RAM: 128GB ECC Registered DDR3 Motherboard: Supermicro MBD-X9DRH-7F Controllers: 3 x AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 & onboard LSI i-SAS RAID PSU: Seasonic X-1250 1250W PSU NIC: Dual Onboard Gigabit OS Drive: 8GB Corsair Voyager Flash Cache Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB Metadata Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 512GB Plex Cache Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 512GB Storage Drives: 12 x 4TB Seagate Hybrid, 3 x 3TB WD Green, 4 x 2TB Assorted, 4 x 500GB Hitachi So... Rick Sanchez
Great build. Why 24 and not smaller? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk Quote Link to comment
cros13
Great build. Why 24 and not smaller? This unRAID build is replacing 18 drives worth of two Synologys and a Drobo that are all within 1TB of full. I'm also building a second uni-processor unRAID box as a mirror of this one. Rick Sanchez
Fair enough but you could do 12 or 16 bays of 4tb drives Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk Quote Link to comment
cros13
Because the existing 18 drives were all 4TB and I have over 50TB to store. I'm using 12 4TB plus whatever drives I have sitting around in this build and keeping an identical set of drives for the build of the backup unit. Quote Link to comment
Rick Sanchez
50tb of data! Holy cow! I've been trying to chose between the twelve and twenty four bay case for over a year! Why so much RAM? What do you think of the case? Quote Link to comment
Chris Pollard
Does V6 have support for all those cores or are you going to be running unraid in ESX? Quote Link to comment
