[SOLVED] upgraded from 5.0 rc11 to 5.0.5, now server won't boot

Featured Replies

I followed these instructions (http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrade_Instructions) from the section '5.0-rc9 through 5.0-rc16c'.

I stopped the array and referencing the flash share on my network, I copied the files bzimage, bzroot, and syslinux.cfg from the zip file to the root of my flash device, overwriting the same-named files already there.

Note: my flash drive didn't have a directory called 'syslinux', so I also copied that directory over from the 5.0.5 zip file. The new syslinux.cfg file was copied from the 'syslinux' directory to the root of my flash drive.

Then I rebooted my server and waited for over 10 minutes. It doesn't boot up. I'm sure there something I must've missed, but I can't figure out what could be wrong.

Just a guess at the problem, but:

In later install instructions, for later versions of unRAID, there is a note about being sure the BOOT partition on the Flash is large enough. On the current distributions, there's even a 'MAKE BOOTABLE' script to help you do that.

See the 'Readme.txt' included in the current release download.

The readme has instructions for upgrading from release 5.0 or later or from before release 5.0. Does a release candidate qualify as a release 5.0 or later? Or, is it considered before 5.0?

release candidates are pre 5.0.0

If you jumped from 5RC1-5RC12-5.05, you skipped some 'final' releases. (5.0.1,5.0.2, etc.)

Those 'point releases' had minor but important tweaks. (they were important to you if you had one of the affected configurations! :)

Can you attach a monitor and see what is going on? You may just need to run make_bootable again.

I reverted back to RC11 and tried again. Luckily, I backed up my flash drive before the last attempt.

This time I used the directions for installing on a new flash drive. Then I copied my config folder back. After rebooting, it works.
