Getting unRAID boot error: Could not find kernel image: linux - SOLVED :-)

Featured Replies

I am getting this this error when trying to boot my unRAID system:

unraidbooterrorwe4.jpg

My set up is the following:

GA-MA74GM-S2H

Sempron LE 1250

2GB DDR2

3 x 1TB WesternDigital GP

Kingston DataTraveler 1GB

unRAID 4.4.2

This is the second time that I set up a unRAID system ( my first one died during a thunder storm, total melt down ) and I newer encountered a problem like this with my old system.

I have not been able to get past that error on the boot screen, I installed following the instructions, format USB to FAT32 named UNRAID, ran this command via Start/Run. c:\syslinux.exe -ma e: ( my Vista pc sees the Kingston as drive e: ) and then unzipped the unRAID 4.4.2 directly to the Kingston DataTraveler.

I am at a total loss here, can someone out there help me out ?

Best Regards

Dennis

I believe i had the same error and added it to the wiki as an incompatible USB drive. that was so long ago though that it may be a false assumption

I don't think that this is the case here, this is the same USB stick that survived my old servers meltdown.

So this USB stick is the same that I have been running my "old" unRAID system on, and my PLUS key is is linked to this USB stick.

I had the same issue and had to format the USB stick to FAT for it to work.

Before reformatting - I'd suggest confirming some of the obvious things.

Does a file called "bzimage" and another file called "bzroot" exist on the root of the USB disk?

Also, please confirm the contents of the file "syslinux.cfg", also on the root of the USB disk.  It should look like this ...

default menu.c32

menu title Lime Technology LLC

prompt 0

timeout 50

label unRAID OS

  menu default

  kernel bzimage

  append initrd=bzroot rootdelay=10

label Memtest86+

  kernel memtest

I had the same issue and had to format the USB stick to FAT for it to work.

Did a format using FAT, repeated the install procedure, and that fixed things, now everything is up and running  ;D

Thanks to all, for the quick help  8)
