Help 2 disks when bad.

Help I just had my disk 4 and parity disk go bad.

I just noticed today that my disk 4 was disabled so I tried to run a smart test but errored out right a way.  So I stopped the server shut down swapped the drive cable and started.  When the server started back up my Parity disk started making bad noises, it wasn't making noises before the shutdown.

I removed both drives from the server and put them in my desktop to run a drive tests on both.  Disk 4 errors out on the short test and is now running on the extended test.  the Parity disk wont even show up in windows but will start and make the same noises for about a minute and shut down.

I'm Hoping that I can get Disk 4 back and the errors were just caused by the parity going bad.  If not I designated disk 4 as backups of other data on the array just in case of a double drive failure I have a slim chance of losing all my important data.  If I am able to get disk 4 back how do I get it from being disabled and recalculating parity?

If I am not able to get disk 4 back how do I restart the array with a new parity drive and without disk 4 without losing the data on the other disks?  This is probable what I am going to do and RMA both disks.

The great thing about unRAID is that all of the disks are independent, so a problem with one disk will not affect the contents of the others. If you are sure that disk4 and parity are both bad (I'm not) and you don't have some other undiagnosed problem such as bad connections, bad power, bad controller, then you can just set a new configuration with a new parity disk and it will rebuild parity.

The way you do this depends on the version of unRAID you have. See here.

The Parity drive is defiantly bad, I can't get the bios to recognize it.  Disk 4 I am unsure of, I swapped cables and still had the smart test fail instantly.  I then put it in another computer and tried the short smart test and it failed instantly, but then when I started the extended test it didn't fail right away and is still going.  I'll find out in a few hours if disk 4 passes and then I'll test it a couple more times just to make sure.

The odd thing is that the parity drive didn't make noises till after the restart.  I am sure that my power supply is good, I have a 650w Seasonic with a single 12v Rail.  I am only running 7 green/red drives and 1 ssd.

I just made a syslog but it does not include anything before I restarted without the drive plugged in.  is there a way to make a log before the restart?

I had to add .zip to the end of the syslog file because 7z was the only way I could get it down to less than 192KB, winRAR would only make a .zip at over 300KB and .rar over 200KB

How do I make a drive not be disabled?

I am running unRAID 5.0.5.

syslog.7z.zip

Update:

I finished writing zeros to disk 4 using WD's lifeguard and passed, then ran a short test and it also passed when I wouldn't pass before the write zeros.  Right now I'm running a extended test and I hope that will pass.  Once I get my new controller I'll start a preclear. I bricked my LSI 9211-8i flashing to IT mode.

Update:

I got my LSI 9211-8i flashed to IT mode, and precleared a new parity and disk 4 drive to replace the ones that were removed.  How do I add the drives back into the array without losing the data on the remaining disks?

You won't be able to recover any data from disk4 since you don't have parity. Utilities - New Config will allow you to assign your drives and then rebuild parity.

If you are unsure, post a screenshot of your Main page so we can see where you are.

That's what I thought I was going to have to do.
