July 8, 201411 yr i was running a parity check last night and i assume it finished ok as unraid box had auto powered down by the time i got up. So I WOL the unraid box but sometimes (rarely) this will power the box up but not come back to life fully. At this point I need to do a forced reboot (hit physical reset button) to get the system up and running. Of course at this point an automatic parity check is performed. How can I turn off auto parity checking. I will run a manual parity check each 2 weeks or each month or something to make sure everything is ok, but i dont want one to be done auto. System Overview unRAID Version: unRAID Server Plus, Version 5.0.5 Motherboard: Gigabyte - EP35C-DS3R Processor: Intel® CoreTM2 Duo CPU - 2.333 GHz Cache: L1 = 64 kB L2 = 4096 kB Memory: 4 GB - DIMM0 = 800 MHz DIMM2 = 800 MHz Network: 1000Mb/s - Full Duplex Uptime: 0 days, 1 hrs, 1 mins, 37 secs
July 9, 201411 yr I suppose your unRAID has booted up or it would not notice a unclean shutdown? In that case, I recommend you install the clean powerdown script (see my sig). Then it is sufficient to hit the power button and wait for your server to go down. Perhaps you do some investigation what is not "coming up" in those rare cases? How 2 disable the automatic parity check?
July 9, 201411 yr Here is a post from Limetech explaining why unclean shutdown should automatically correct parity.
July 9, 201411 yr You don't want your server going down with the array started. No file system is happy with pulling the power which is in effect what you are doing. Two things could happen - 1-your data disks could get corrupted. RFS is pretty good at having this not happen, but it is a risk 2-parity could get corrupted. If parity is corrupted then doing a drive rebuild will result is a partially corrupted restore with no tools to tell you what may have been messed up. So no, parity check should not be skipped.
