September 6, 201411 yr I just recently found out that all of my permissions are wonky and I was just looking for some input before I started messing with my permissions. Permissions seem to be fine while using user shares through SMB or AFP, I can't access files and folders I am not supposed to. All great. Now, when I SSH or FTP into my box using my personal usershare (not root) I can gloriously access mine and anyone elses files and transfer them however I like. I took a look at permissions on some files/directories and almost all of them are as below: drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 192 2014-09-03 22:56 ./ drwxrwxrwx 1 755 users 288 2014-09-03 22:56 ../ drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 336 2013-10-15 19:00 10.27.13/ drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 1.7K 2013-10-15 18:56 10.3.13/ drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 952 2013-10-15 19:08 8.29.13/ drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 656 2013-10-15 19:05 9.12.13/ drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 688 2013-10-15 19:02 9.19.13/ drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 280 2013-10-15 19:06 9.5.13/ Is my only option to go through each directory and set permissions to my liking? Thanks and let me know if more information would help.
September 6, 201411 yr What is wrong with the above permissions? The nobody/users combination is the standard default setting in unRAID for it work correctly with Samba. This is what the 'new permissions' script sets them to when it I run. What are you thinking of setting them to?
September 6, 201411 yr Author I guess I probably don't have a full understanding of how the permissions work but I understand that's how that script sets things up. Is it normal for me to be able to access almost any file on my server through ssh or ftp when logging in with a user account?
September 7, 201411 yr Yes, unRAID is a network file server. It's not designed for local user accounts.
